Seattle, United States (Days 1, 8)
Seattle is often characterized by its laid-back attitude and rainy climate, but this thriving metropolis also offers one-of-a-kind architecture, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, and a unique urban sophistication.
Seattle, United States - Attractions & Activities
Pacific Science Center began as the United States Science Pavilion during the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. Millions came to explore the wonders of science during the World's Fair and upon closing ceremonies, the Science Pavilion was given new life as the private not-for-profit Pacific Science Center, becoming the first U.S. museum founded as a science and technology center.
Woodland Park Zoo is a conservation and education institution demonstrating the value, beauty and interdependence of all living things. See, touch and explore our amazing underwater world at the Seattle Aquarium. Get face-to-fin with marine life and discover the natural wonders of the Puget Sound. The Space Needle is located at Seattle Center. That's an apt description of where we are: the center of Seattle. Whatever your interests - theatre, ballet, opera, professional sports, rock 'n' roll history, roller coasters, science, movies, shopping, exploring or just plain walking around - the city unfurls from the Space Needle. The Washington Park Arboretum is a spectacular urban green space on the shores of Lake Washington just east of downtown Seattle and south of the University of Washington. Its 230 acres comprise a dynamic, living museum with collections of oaks, conifers, camellias, Japanese maples and hollies that are known internationally as our country's largest.Check out the Experience Music Project, a rock-n-roll museum known not only for its contents, but for its architectural design.Stroll through the historic district of Pioneer Square, filled with art galleries, restaurants, and plenty of bookstores and boutiques.Gain some historical insight at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
Ketchikan, United States (Day 3)
Ketchikan was originally founded as a Native American fishery before growing during the 1898 Gold Rush to the Klondike. Much of the town's colorful past is still evident, both in the city center and especially in the nearby Native American villages, where visitors will be enchanted by colorfully carved totem poles and the fascinating legends that surround them.
Ketchikan, United States - Attractions & Activities
- Experience the sheer granite cliffs, plunging 1,000-foot waterfalls, crystalline lakes and low-hanging mists of Misty Fjords from the air on a seaplane.
- Visit the Totem Heritage Center and explore the history of these cultural icons which can also be found throughout the city.
- Stroll through the town and shop for local crafts and jewelry before having lunch at one of Ketchikan's classic cafes.
Juneau, United States (Day 4)
Juneau, Alaskas remote capital, sits in the states panhandle, at the base of 3,819-ft. Mount Roberts. Its a popular cruise-ship stop, reachable only by boat or seaplane. A tram carries visitors 1,800 feet up Mount Roberts to an alpine area with hiking trails, wildflowers and views of Gastineau Channel.
Juneau, United States - Attractions & Activities
- Relive Juneau's gold-rush history and pan for gold in the authentic setting of Gold Creek.
- Fly in a floatplane over five breathtaking glaciers to the Taku Glacier Lodge.>
- Take a fully narrated helicopter flight over four translucent glaciers within the Juneau Ice Field. Soar past towering peaks and picturesque alpine lakes on this exciting adventure.
- Explore Juneau on foot. With more trails than roads, Alaska's capital features world-class hiking - through glacial waterfalls and the largest temperate rainforest in the state.
- On Auke Bay, take a high-speed catamaran ride specifically designed for wildlife-watching. The bay is rich with humpback and killer whales, sea lions, and porpoises.
Skagway, United States (Day 5)
With its colorful history Skagway is one of the most interesting and bustling towns of the Inside Passage. Skagway was born during the Gold Rush of 1898 when more than 10,000 adventurers used the community as the starting point of their hunt for gold. Now, nature has reclaimed the land, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the rainforest, visit historic ruins, breathe in the fresh mountain air.
Skagway, United States - Attractions & Activities
Skagway is a compact city in southeast Alaska, set along the popular cruise route the Inside Passage. It's home to gold-rush-era buildings, now preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad runs vintage locomotives past the famously steep Chilkoot trail and offers sweeping mountain views during its climb toward Canada.
- Ride the world-famous White Pass and Yukon Railroad and then visit a historic gold-rush camp and visit cabins and tents that were once used as a bakery and a saloon.
- Take a helicopter to the Valley of the Glaciers and hike across this huge sheet of ice while a guide points out crevasses and other features.
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada (Day 7)
British, and darn proud of it.
The shops are stocked with Harris tweeds, Irish linens and Scottish woollens. The locals play croquet, double-decker buses wend their way through the well-kept streets, and afternoon tea is served daily at the Empress Hotel.
In fact, genteel Victoria, British Columbia so closely resembles an English seaside town that it almost seems out of place among the majestic snow manteled mountains and cedar forests that surround it. This juxtaposition, of course, only adds to its charm.
